Muralla de Bronce started 17 years ago (2008) in one night in Cali, Colombia, while my wife, my son's godfather, and I were listening to Salsa in a small speaker (that also worked for radio, CDs and cassettes). It was the same music we listened to when growing up, and the magic of it was that all the stories told in these Salsa songs, were the stories we used to see daily in the neighborhood. For example, characters like Pablo Pueblo, Juan Albañil, Juanito Alimaña, and Pedro Navaja became real people. Salsa music was alive everywhere in Cali. It was quite common seeing people dancing until sunrise (Hasta el Amanecer as we say in Spanish), listening to music in every corner of the neighborhood, even at school! I remember my music teacher in sixth grade, Divo Jose, all his classes were auditions so we would listen to songs like Si la Tierra Tiembla and La Sopita en Botella, performed by La Guarachera de Cuba. Great music that I had the privilege to know in the classroom.
Our first proposal was to create a space where people could listen to music and spread it. We called Muralla de Bronce, in honor to one of the most influential and icon of the salsa culture in Latin-America, Ismael Rivera, el sonero mayor (The greatest sonero).
Great moments, friends, and joys remained in our memory.
However, as people say, time does not stop. Now, far away from our hometown, and the neighborhood where everything started, here we are in Canada. In our house, the living room has become our meeting point. Our conversations usually are about salsa music, jazz, social media, and of course, there is always music as our company.
One of those nights, I decided to take up this project, keeping the same essence of 17 years back.
Now, we are pleased to present to you, Muralla de Bronce.

"My music is not on the right, nor on the left, it is in the center of a legal drum"
(My music- Ismael Rivera)
We hope you enjoy this new space!!
